Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone 😀 Today my post is relatively simple.

This year I’m thankful for my health. Recovering from a nasty throat infection reminded me how infrequent it is that I get sick. I’m thankful for that, and I shouldn’t take it for granted as I’ve probably been guilty in the past of doing.

I’m also thankful for the wonderful friendships I have with many members of my family, and my extended families. I cherish the moments I have with them, visiting and getting to know them as individuals, not just my relatives, and I’m thankful I currently have the luxury to chisel in time to see many of them during my daily life, and not just on holidays.

One reason being I just found out this weekend I have to work, so while family is visiting, I’ll be stuck at my computer. Ugh! The joys of freelancing. No matter. I’m not letting that bum me out. Thursday (today) will be my free today!

I’m also thankful, and grateful, for all my online friends (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, my blog, etc.)  Those who post a pic, a comment, a quick hello… I tend to bury my head in my stories about Rayea, especially when I’m on deadline and forget to venture over to their corner of the world and say, “Hi.” It makes my day when I hear from you.  Writing is such a solitary task. And I don’t want to take for granted the love I receive from you guys, or expect it while I’m off dreaming up ideas for stories. I’d say that next to the actual act of writing, chatting with my online friends, many who have started out as readers, is a fun bonus to this hobby of mine.

Lastly, I’m thankful for the fact that people want to read my books. After my hiatus from writing (Summer 2012 to Summer 2013), I’m thankful for the amazing interest my latest installment “The Vampire from Hell Returns (Part 4)” has been getting. It’s been a great two months since its release on Oct. 15, 2013. And funny enough, I’m currently working on Part 5. (Yep, you read that right.) Rayea and I are back!

I’m still showing up at the keyboard, giving it a whirl. Some days are productive days. Some days aren’t, but that’s okay. I’ve learned a lot about the craft of writing, the pros, the cons, the joys, and the heartaches. I’m thankful I’ve learned these lessons, and without experiencing “the journey” as I like to call it, I wouldn’t still be devoted to my craft.

EXCERPT Featuring Rayea and Blick

Meet Rayea, the vampire from Hell and her best friend, Blick. After first meeting Blick as a hellhound in Hell who rescued her, she works at becoming comfortable with his human side. This excerpt is from The Vampire from Hell: A Vampire Among Angels (Part 2).

“Have you been up all night…again?”

Blick found me on the terrace, gazing at the ocean.  It was the break of dawn, and he was headed out for another day of training.  I wanted to ask him if he was okay with my missing a lot of our martial arts practice sessions, but I forgot the question when I saw him.  I feared my sleep deprivation was causing me to hallucinate, and then I remembered Blick’s change.

Since arriving at the House of G, Blick had transformed from his Lycan-Underworld-movie look to that of a tall, unassuming man with chiseled facial features and gleaming gold eyes.

“I can’t get used to your shift into human form.  Your goatee is very nice.  You are handsome for a hellhound, you know?”

“Is that a sense of humor I detect today?” he replied, ignoring my observation.  He was confident and determined standing there in his workout clothes which consisted of a bright white T-shirt clinging to his tanned lean frame, a pair of royal-blue gym shorts, and white sneakers.  The wind from the sea pushed a few wisps of his jet black hair into his eyes and he brushed them aside.

Hearing the love in his soft baritone voice was music to my ears.  Since we didn’t need to be secretive anymore, we had fallen out of the habit of talking to each other telepathically.

“What about the nightmares?” he asked.

Tears rose in my eyes.  I gritted my teeth and fought to compose myself, so I didn’t burst out crying like a little girl in front of him.  “Ongoing,” I muttered.  “Anytime I try to sleep, I see Father and Stephanie turn into monstrous snakes and chase after me.”  Because I hadn’t been able to sleep for weeks, my life consisted of three activities: wandering around Blick’s home, surfing the internet on my computer, or hanging out on the terrace (usually at night).

He nodded and placed his hand on my forehead, checking my body temperature.  “You’re burning up,” he insisted.

“I think that’s just my natural temperature now.”  I smiled up at him weakly.  The seven-foot hellhound I had raised from a pup in Hell was actually a seven-foot shapeshifting angel who was trying his best to take care of me.  Lately, I had marveled at his human appearance especially when he was fussing over why my health was steadily declining.  Blick wasn’t the only one worried about me.  I was too.

“A friend is coming by later with some supplements.  Will you answer the door this time, please?” he asked.

We stood on the terrace of his home in silence for a few moments, watching the waves.  About eight two-story properties of high ranking angels including Blick’s home lined a sandy white beach nestled in a cove.  His home was in the center of the arch-shaped cove, and I could look out from the terrace on the second floor and see the ocean.  Towards the east, the ocean stretched out to what seemed like infinity.  It was more beautiful than I’d imagined oceans could be.  Now in the morning sunlight, the water glistened and danced, merging into hues of light blue and green.  Were the oceans on Earth this blue?  One day, I thought to myself, one day I’ll find out.

Love Begins in Hell (The Moon Journals: Part 1) – Free at Amazon Smashwords

For some, love begins when you least expect it. For Elana, falling in love begins in Hell. When twenty-one-year-old Elana is kidnapped and finds herself in Hell of all places, she discovers something unique in her ancestry. She’s a werewolf and she’s fallen in love with someone unexpectedly Dante, the young demon who agrees to help her escape.

(Cover Design by Ally Thomas)

EXCERPT Featuring Elana and Dante

Meet Elana, a werewolf who falls in love in the most unlikely of places, Hell.  Dante is the young demon who agrees to help her escape from  a certain death at the hands of his evil father, Lucifer.

Then finally, he embraced me again.  “Not this time.  He won’t succeed this time.”

The moment I felt his hand on the back of my neck, I moaned quietly.  The emotions in me rose to the surface.  I couldn’t control it.  And I couldn’t deny it.  I had found love in the most unlikely place, at the most unlikely time.  I remained frozen in Dante’s grasp.  If my freedom was at the hands of this demon, so be it.  If it meant losing my heart to him in the process, so be it.  I wanted to spend eternities being in this young man’s arms.  Forever.

Elana, think with your head.  This demon is the enemy too.  We must destroy them all.

For the first time in my life, I ignored the Wolf.

“I’m sorry about before.  I didn’t realize my words would hurt you, Dante.  Please forgive me.”  I swallowed down the Wolf’s words as I recognized the fact that my priorities were quickly changing.

Dante’s arms tightened closer around me.  “Just because I live among demons doesn’t mean I will stay a demon.  Haven’t you wanted to better yourself or be someone different?”

“I like who I am, Dante.”

“A wolf girl in a frilly dress?”

I considered his insult.  Maybe I was a snotty brat.  That’s what my stepmother called me.  But I didn’t care what others thought.  I was fine with who I was.  “I like being a werewolf.  Thank you very much.  I can’t think of what else I’d want to be.  A vampire?”  I sighed loudly, more for Dante’s benefit and not my own.  The idea of me having to change for someone infuriated me and I refused to do it.

“If war comes, you’ll have to think about more than your dresses and parties.  That’s all I’m saying.”

I nodded, holding back a line of more insults.  Now was not the time.  “If you can help me escape, I’ll be in your debt,” I stated.

Pulling away from me as he gazed into my eyes, he tucked a portion of my long blonde bangs under my cap again.  He searched my face for answers.  A million problems seemed to be knotted up behind his eyes.  His brows drew together in an agonized expression.  “You don’t owe me anything.  This is between me and Lucifer, not you.  These games must end now.  I know that now.  He’ll never stop unless someone steps in.”

His discourse didn’t seem directed at me.

“I can say that I only wish we had met under more favorable circumstances because I fear that when you leave you will be taking my heart with you,” he added.

Tears rose in my eyes and I pressed my face into his chest.  “I’ll keep it safe, Dante.  I promise.  But first I must tell you something.”  After realizing he had just handed his heart over to me, I decided to come clean and tell him everything.  My charade of the silly party girl was wearing thin and my emotions were all over the place.  Would Dante understand?

Change has an irrevocable impact on the mind, body and soul. To the fearful it’s threatening—it means there’s a possibility that things could get worse. To the hopeful, however, it’s encouraging because it means things could get better.

Was I fearful or was I hopeful?

I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling in my sunlit bedroom and pondered about that. To most people this wouldn’t be so stressful. To most people change meant a new hair color or a new job.

But I realized a while ago—I am not most people.

I had been left to make a choice that was so life changing that it would alter me completely, forever. I could choose to become a vampire and gain the strength I desperately needed to protect myself. With this choice I could spend an eternity of nights in the arms of the most perfect creature because I too, would be a perfect creature.

Or, I could choose to pledge myself to a monarch, a leader of the fey. Become a child of magic, wonder and beauty and still possess the strength I need for my defense.

Or door number three, choose not to choose. I could remain human, as I’d lived comfortably for the past eighteen years now. But, to choose nothing would still be a choice, and would determine the path my life would take. None of myoptions guaranteed a smooth path. But I had a lingering a feeling that, no matter what I chose, the path that was unwinding in front of me was going to be very, very rocky.

About the Author

candaceBorn in 1985 as Candace Osmond in North York Ontario, I began to travel with my parents at the very young age of four years old. I had lived all over Canada and seen everything my country has to offer, from the enchanting shores of Fogo Island, Newfoundland to the gigantic snow-capped mountains of Port Alberni, British Columbia all by the time I was ten. I did, however, spend most of my life in Eastern Canada where I was surrounded by folklore and legends, not knowing how they would shape my personality and imagination for the rest of my life.

Being the only girl of my age in a small group of kids, in an even smaller town, left me spending most of my time by myself and, in result, letting my imagination take over. I would sit by the shore and dream up stories of mermaids and other fantastic creatures to pass the time. Coming from a family with writers and artists dispersed throughout, it was only natural that I spend my time writing, drawing and reading. I dreamed of becoming nothing more than an artist, a creator of any kind. By the age of eleven, I spent most of my waking hours scribbling down short stories, poems and anything else I could think of, while adding my own personal illustrations. By the age of fourteen, I had won numerous minor arts and writing competitions. I excelled at anything art and literature related so, naturally, I planned to attend university for nothing more or less than that. In 2003 I planned to attend university for Creative Writing and Literary Studies. But, with the fear that I would spend all my time and money on an education and end up in a field that I may very well struggle to succeed in, I backed out and attended school for Design instead. Now, a successful Designer living happily in sunny Medicine Hat, Alberta, I met a man and fell in love. His passion and talent for art far exceeds my own, but he motivated me to awaken my old habits of staying up late or waking up early to scribble down dreams and ideas before I had forgotten them and they disappeared forever.

New Release

VHell_Revamped_123It has been over a year since Part 3 – A Vampire on Vacation was published in July 2012.  Since then I have not released anything related to this series.  That’s a startling, and sobering fact, for me – even for my readers maybe– because for many months last year, I did not know if I’d return to writing this series.  I didn’t know if I’d keep writing at all.

Spin-off to The Vampire from Hell series

If you are a fan of my series, The Vampire from Hell you may want to read more about a new short story by Ally Thomas. It is set in the year 3015 A.D. featuring a werewolf who was born with a blood virus. His mother is a vampire from Hell and his father is a hellhound turned werewolf. Sound familiar?

Meet Zachary, the Zombie Wolf.

I thought it would be fun to set a story around a child of Rayea and Blick’s. This is assuming that they actually get together, are married at some point, and live happily ever after with a son (if it occurs in that order). It’s a possibility for where the Vampire from Hell series may be headed. But it’s just a possibility.
